Happy Birthday to me…

June 10, 2008 – 11:38 pm

Last year about this time I pondered on this quote thinking I was turning 25—this year I really am turning 25.

Until a man is twenty-five, he still thinks, every so often, that under the right circumstances he could be the baddest motherfucker in the world. If I moved to a martial-arts monastery in China and studied real hard for ten years. If my family was wiped out by Colombian drug dealers and I swore myself to revenge. If I got a fatal disease, had one year to live, devoted it to wiping out street crime. If I just dropped out and devoted my life to being bad.

-Neal Stephenson, Snow Crash

I’m happy with what I’ve done thus far: I’ve filed a provisional patent, I’m trying to start a business, I’ve worked full-time at a major tech company, I’m on track to get an offer at a second, and I’m half done with my masters. I haven’t picked up the cello yet, but I figure I’ve got some wiggle room there. So, maybe I’m not the baddest motherfucker out there (I’ll let Billy, Blake, Christian, or any of the host of other folks I know more clever than I claim that title) but thus far it’s been a good run, and I’m enjoying it.

Also, the folks at work got me cake, and a balloon, they rock.
